The Hohe Tauern Festival rocks the Oberpinzgau region
(Mittersill) From October 11 to 15, the FESTIVAL HOHE TAUERN took its visitors in Oberpinzgau (Salzburger Land) on those paths where local musical traditions converge with classical music at the highest level.
Programmatically under the theme "Heimat und Fremde. On mule tracks." took up Rubén Dubrovskythe artistic director of the festival, used the fascinating contrast between the familiar and the unfamiliar as the centerpiece of the festival's musical performances, attracting celebrities to the Oberpinzgau region. Abbot Georg Wilfinger and Father Rotheneder, both of Melk Abbey, as well as Josef Köpplinger, State Director of the Theater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, honored the festival with their visit.

As part of a "Singing" master class, tenor KS Michael Schade together with the internationally renowned pianist Justus Zeyen and four talented scholarship holders performed works by the Austrian composers Benedict Randhartinger (1802-1893) and Robert Schumann (1810-1856). In a Bösendorfer Hall filled to the last seat at Mittersill Castle the artists enchanted their audience on Friday in the most charming way and earned standing ovations.

On Saturday, alphorn players, the Brass Quintet Mittersill and the Liedertafel Mittersill performed the first part of the festival concert with traditional music. The Austrian mezzo-soprano Sophie Rennert, ensemble member at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz, opened the second part of the concert evening together with the Kammerphilharmonie Hohe Tauern under the direction of Rubén Dubrovsky. They presented arias from the operas "Don Giovanni" and "Idomeneo". Beethoven's Symphony No. 2 in D major, Op. 36, also drew frenetic applause from the enthusiastic audience. As an encore, Sophie Rennert shone with "Lascia la spina" from the opera "Il Trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno" by George Frideric Handel and received rapturous applause.

On Sunday afternoon, the Janoska Ensemble freshly arrived from the Vienna Musikverein, performed at the Kammerlanderstall in Neukirchen am Großvenediger. With their program "The big B's", the four musicians interpreted well-known works of classical music in the unmistakable "Janoska style". The audience was absolutely thrilled and celebrated with them, which led to a special connection between the festival visitors and the artists on stage. A grand finale! The organizers of the Hohe Tauern Festival face a real challenge next year - from 9 to 13 October 2024 - to build on this success.

Invitation to the chamber music series in the Bösendorfer Saal
Mittersill Castle Concert
On Friday, September 1, 2023 at 7:30 pm, the Pinzgau Horn Quartet and the Brass Quintet Mittersill met at Schloss Mittersill for a joint ensemble concert.
Both ensembles began their intensive musical development a good two years ago and made it through regional and state competitions to the Austrian final of the national competition "Music in Small Groups 2022" in Wels.
A musical journey through different genres and eras revealed the versatility of these widely used instrumental forms. A highlight of the varied concert evening was the joint performance of a baroque double choir by Giovanni Gabrieli, specially arranged for these two ensembles by horn player Leopold Ruttinger.
