Festival Hohe Tauern - Chamber music series castle concert 2023

Cornelius Mayer

Cornelius Mayer, who grew up in a musical family, was influenced early on by the musical diversity of the Regensburger Domspatzen music school. Starting with violin and piano, he later turned to the viola and discovered his passion for chamber music and orchestral playing in all its facets.

He gained his first orchestral experience in the Bavarian State Youth Orchestra (BLJO) and the Young German Philharmonic Orchestra (JDPh), where he had the opportunity to work with conductors such as Mariss Jansons, Robin Ticciati and Andrés Orozco-Estrada. After his studies with Prof. Roland Glassl in Frankfurt/Main, he deepened his orchestral experience at the Bavarian State Opera's Orchestra Academy, where he was inspired by Kirill Petrenko, Ivor Bolton and Constantinos Carydis, among others. Master classes and chamber music courses with Hariolf Schlichtig, Thomas Riebl, Oliver Wille and Hubert Buchberger gave him further important impulses.

Cornelius Mayer has been principal violist at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich since 2015. Guest engagements have taken him to the Hamburg State Opera, the RSO Berlin and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, among others.
