Opera singer Sophie Gallagher won first prize at the 2021 Gustav Mahler Competition in Geneva together with her duo partner, pianist Émile Chandellier. She made her first European debuts as Emmie in "Albert Herring" by Benjamin Britten for the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino (Jonathan Webb/Alessandro Talevi) and as the First Witch in Purcell's "Dido and Aeneas" (Harry Bickett/English Concert) at the Opéra de Lausanne.

In the UK, Sophie has given solo recitals at The Queen's Gallery, Buckingham Palace, and has appeared as soloist in numerous oratorio performances, including Schütz's "Christmas Oratorio" in St. John's Smith Square.
Sophie began singing during her school years in England (Salisbury Cathedral & Wells Cathedral School) as well as cello, piano and organ before devoting herself entirely to solo singing. After graduating from the Royal College of Music (Josephine Baker Prize), she obtained a Master's degree at the Haute École de Musique in Geneva, where she studied and was coached by Heidi Brunner and Nina Uhari.
A lover of both opera and concert work, Sophie was Artist in Residence for Brera Musica at the Pinacoteca di Brera in Milan and starred in their original film "Peregrin and the Giant Fish". Highlights of recent seasons include the creation and world premiere of John Barber's "The Song of the Ladder" as Rachel, which was broadcast on RAI in June 2024.
Sophie has sung regularly with the ensemble Gli Angeli and her recent performance of Bach's 'St. John Passion' at Victoria Hall and subsequent CD release with Claves Records, on which she featured as a soloist, was acclaimed by audiences and press: "Young Sophie Gallagher has all the vocal qualities for this repertoire, round voice and fruity sound" (letemps.ch).
Sophie continues her professional training and coaching between Vienna and Nuremberg and studies privately with Raymond Connell.
